Want to rub elbows with top celebrities? It’s possible with Eva Longoria’s Celebrity Casino Night. The former Desperate Housewives star is hosting the 5th Annual Eva Longoria Celebrity Casino Night on October 6th 2012. The event will return to the JW Marriot San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa to raise money for Longoria’s charity Eva’s Heroes.

The event will feature celebrities, poker pros and supporters of the charity competing in several casino games including blackjack, roulette, craps and even a Texas Hold’em Tournament. The best chefs in the world will also be on hand to provide food and drink. The event will also include live and silent auctions as well as prizes and some surprises. The grand prize winner of the poker tournament will earn a great prize, which remains secret as of now.

The ticket price to the event is $200 and the tournament has a buy-in of $400 for those who want to hit the felt. The doors will open at 5:30 and beginning at 6pm, the celebrities will hit the red carpet. Players will not only have the Texas hold’em tournament to play but also Let It Ride Poker, 3 Card Poker, and much more!

Eva’s Heroes will benefit from the casino night’s activities. The charity was co-founded by Longoria and is dedicated to enriching the lives of those who have intellectual special needs. The group helps by providing a setting that is built around four tenets: interact, grow, learn and love. The group is based in San Antonia and helps teens and young adults with special needs to be able to integrate and grow in society.

Longoria has stated on the site: “I was extremely fortunate to grow up with an intellectually disabled sister. My mother became a special education teacher because of her, and therefore, I have been involved with all facets of this community since I could walk and talk.”  Longoria has taken her fame and created a worthwhile charity. The casino event has been a great success over the years and this year’s event is expected to be just as successful. Longoria will be on hand at the event and friend Mario Lopez has also confirmed. Poker pro Phil Hellmuth will also be on hand during the event.

Eva Longoria and George Lopez Dish on Alma Awards: All about Latino Olympian Ryan Lochte

Actors Eva Longoria and George Lopez are making sure this year’s Alma Awards will be an over-the-top, “vibrant” fiesta.

In a press conference on Monday, Longoria and Lopez dished on their roles as hosts of the ALMA Awards, which honors Latinos in media.

The annual awards ceremony will take place Sept. 16. in Los Angeles. The telecast will be taped and shown the following week on Sept. 21. on NBC.

This year the talk of the ceremony are the Latino Olympians, in particular Cuban-American swimmer Ryan Lochte, singer Chrisitna Aguilera and rapper Pitbull and, of course, the upcoming elections.

“Every year George and I mix it up,” said an excited Longoria. “This year it’s important because the election is coming up,” said Longoria, who is a loyal Obama supporter and last week gave a speech on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief at the Democratic National Convention.

Lopez, who is known for including political and current events in his comedy skits at the ALMA Awards, says viewers can expect to get a good laugh.

“We are not trying to beat people over the head with a flag saying look at us,” said Lopez chuckling. “But, I loved how at the RNC and the DNC [politicians] added a bit of Spanish to their speeches. I’ve been doing that for the past 20 years!”

In previous years Longoria has made a splash at the ceremony for her colorful ensembles and multiple costume changes. Still, the “Desperate Housewives” actress says the important thing is “inclusion,” something that the viewers can expect to see again this year.

“Every year we have done collaborations regarding music,” Longoria added. “We celebrate diversity.”

“Christina [Aguilera] is so relevant now because her show is really big and so we thought we’d honor her. Every year it is exciting.”

Christina Aguilera will be honored with the Special Achievement award, while fellow Latinos Wilmer Valderrama, Michael Peña, America Ferrera and Nicole Richie will be presenting throughout the evening.

“We got it all covered,” said Lopez.

“I will say with the ALMA’s we are not second best celebrities,” Lopez said. “Our celebrities are on the level of everyone else. Latinos are wildly successful and globally successful. We want everybody to see that.”

He cited Longoria, Aguilera and Pitbull as celebrities who “are global and not just regional.”

Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria Tapped for Key Roles at Democratic National Convention

Actor Jeff Bridges also signs up to raise awareness about childhood hunger in America at both conventions.

With the Democratic National Convention less than two weeks away, two of Hollywood’s A-list actresses have been tapped for key roles at the post-Labor Day gathering in Charlotte.

Actress Jessica Alba and her husband, producer Cash Warren, will co-host the week’s most important fundraising event, a joint open-your-checkbook party for all the pro-Democratic super PAC’s, including Priorities USA. The event, which is set for the convention’s closing night, is being called “Super-O-Rama” and hopes are high that it will help rescue the Dems’ efforts in the independent expenditure sector, where they’ve badly lagged those of the Republicans.

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, who is one of the co-chairs of the president’s reelection campaign, also will be one of the nine women to address the delegates from the podium. There are no consistent records to cite, but most observers think that’s a record number of female speakers at a national convention. Longoria has been one of President Barack Obama’s most enthusiastic surrogates during this election cycle and has emerged as a leading advocate of his reelection among Latinos.

In a pre-convention campaign video, Longoria told viewers, “Ever since I was a little kid, my parents made sure I knew I could do anything if I worked hard. My sister Lisa, who faced obstacles growing up with special needs, taught me to be courageous and compassionate. This is how I try to live my life day to day and this is what I see in everything President Obama does. Whether he’s fighting for affordable healthcare and access to education, or supporting small businesses in the Hispanic community, over the last three years he’s worked to reform our immigration system, to give everyone a fair shot at the American Dream.”

Cuban-American journalist and Spanish language television host Christina Saralequi also will be among the women addressing the convention, as will a pair of the party’s reigning political celebrities—California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris and Massachusetts senatorial hopeful Elizabeth Warren. Both are big favorites of the Hollywood Democrats.

The big after-recess party on the convention’s second night will feature hip-hop artist and actor Common, who will perform at a charity benefit for Musicians on Call, a group that makes music available to wounded U.S. service men and women. “I’m not only excited to be able to support our President at this year’s Democratic National Convention,” he said, “but also Musicians On Call, an organization that brings the healing power of music to hospital patients all over America.” Jermaine Dupri will DJ the concert, which is set for Charlotte’s Fillmore venue.

On a bipartisan note, Jeff Bridges—who the many “Big Lebowski” cultists among young voters regard as a source of wisdom second only the Buddha—will be at both the Republican National Convention in Tampa next week and in Charlotte next month “Well, I don’t dig party lines,” he wrote on the web, “so I’m heading to both the Republican National Convention AND the Democratic National Convention to get people talking about an issue in our country that knows no party — childhood hunger. I’ll be at both conventions, meeting with leaders, appearing on behalf of No Kid Hungry, and telling officials of both parties that America’s future depends on their supporting America’s kids today.”

You don’t need a DJ to get that message across.
